DRAWINGS

I’ve always drawn to pass time and get lost. From the early mornings of the day before school started I would sit with a piece of paper and draw while my parents started their day and before my siblings would wake up. I filled up my first sketchbook within days and still hold onto it to remember how important it’s been for me throughout my life.

They often start with an eyeball and develop from there - often I’m surprised by who the eye belongs to. When I’m lost for words, a drawing helps get me through.

While I’m typically right-handed, my most recent collection of drawings where done left-handed and with my eyes closed. This was a practice exercise that was done to build trust back up within my self and as a way to fine tune the image I held in my imagination. I would ask my inner self to show me a flower that I’d never seen before, mask off the paper and give my self a half hour to draw it. After, I would open my eyes and with my right hand add details like long horizontal lines behind the image. I found the duality of using both hands and leaning in to trusting my imagination yielded some beautiful and surprising pieces.
